Reduce

  • Take a reusable cloth shopping bag whenever you go shopping and avoid a collection of new plastic bags.
  • Refuse a bag when only purchasing one or two items.

Reuse

  • Take plastic bags back to the store for reuse.
  • Favour those items that are packaged in plastic containers that can be reused.
  • Reuse plastic dairy containers for freezing leftovers, for storing crayons or for making ice-blocks for your cooler.
  • Cut out the bottom of bleach bottles and milk jugs to put over young plants as protection from frost during the spring planting season.
  • Use reusable plastic containers to pack your lunch.

Recycle

  • Favour those items that are packaged in materials easily recycled in our Regional District such as paper or tin.
  • Most major grocery stores have receptacles for accepting clean plastic bags for recycling
  • Beverage containers can be returned to a bottle depot for refund.
  • 6-pack rings for beer cans can be returned to BC Liquor Stores for recycling.
