Food and Water

Three day's supply of water - 2 litres per person per day for drinking and 2 litres per person per day for cooking and sanitation (12 litres/person/3days). Store at least three days supply of non-perishable food. Select foods that do not require refrigeration, preparation or cooking, as well as little to no water.

Here are some ideas:

    • Canned Meat, Fruit, Vegetables
    • Peanut Butter
    • Granola Bars
    • Trail Mix
    • Cookies
    • Coffee, Tea
    • Favorite treats
 

Also, don't forget a manual can opener, pocket knife, paper plates, cups, utensils

Safety

  • First aid kit
  • Battery or wind-up radio
  • Extra batteries
  • Flashlight
  • Whistle
  • Candles, matches/lighter
  • Small amount of cash in low denominations

Personal items:

  • One complete change of clothing per person including a jacket, heavy socks, mitts and toque (adjust according to season)
  • Sleeping bags or blankets
  • Hand sanitizer, toilet paper, paper towels, wet wipes and personal hygiene products
  • Soap, liquid detergent
  • Baby supplies
  • Medications, toothbrush, tooth paste
  • Financial and personal records

Place these items in 1 to 2 suitcases or large wheeled plastic tubs. Check food expiry dates and mark on your calendar when they need to be replaced, including the water which should be every 3 to 6 months.
