The Village of Valemount occupies 4 km² and the 1,052 residents are represented on the Regional District Board by Mayor Owen Torgerson.
Region-wide services provided include solid waste management, 9-1-1 emergency response, fire services coordination, regional parks, land use planning, building inspection and heritage conservation. Other services include libraries, Valemount and District Fire Protection and Rescue Service and television rebroadcasting. The Canoe Valley Recreation Centre offers hockey, speed skating, figure skating and public skating from September through April. The facility can also be booked for special events.
George Hicks Regional Park is located in Valemount along Swift Creek and Cedarside Regional Park is 3 km south of Valemount on Little Cranberry Lake. Both parks are maintained by the Village of Valemount under contract to the Regional District.
